How to set up email in Outlook 2016
User Name: yourname@yourcompany.co.za (Your user name is your full email address)
Incoming Server: mail.yourcompany.co.za
Incoming Server Ports: IMAP 143 / POP 110
Outgoing Server: smtp.yourcompany.co.za
Outgoing Server Port: SMTP 587
This guide takes you step-by-step through the process of setting up a new email account in Outlook 2016.
If the Mail account is already set up, but giving errors – then refer to our Troubleshooting guide.
Note: This guide defaults to IMAP and No SSL.
Replace example.co.za with your domain name
Step 1 - Launch Outlook
Step 2 - Select File on the top left menu bar
Step 3 - Select the Add Account button in the middle of the screen, then Account Settings
Step 4 - Insert your email address
Step 5 - Select Advanced options, then select Let me setup my account manually > Connect
This temporary screen will display
Step 7 - This screen will display the various account options – select IMAP
Step 8 - Server Settings:
- Incoming mail: add mail. before your domain name
- Port 143 (or 110 for POP)
- Encryption method: None
- Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unticked
- Outgoing mail: add smtp. before your domain name
- Change Port to 587 (not 25)
- Encryption method: None
- Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unticked
Step 9 - Click Connect
Step 10 - You will now be prompted for the password
