WordPress Backup and Updates

Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard by typing your site URL into your browser address / search bar followed by /wp-admin. EG www.yoursitename.com/wp-admin

Back up your Core WordPress Install

Before updating any plugins or your core WordPress install it is always advisable to have a current backup.

From the left hand side admin dashboard menu select > BackupBuddy > Settings

Enter and confirm an “ImportBuddy password”. This will be used when running the Import Buddy migration script and should not be the same password as your WordPress admin password. Keep this password in a safe place as it will be needed should you ever need to restore or move your WordPress website.

To backup your site from the left hand side admin dashboard menu select > BackupBuddy > Backup and then click on the “Complete Backup” option. When the backup has been completed click the blue “Download backup file” button to save a copy of the backup to your local hard drive. It is advisable to also keep a copy of the backup on the server but remember you could also be charged additions fees by your hosting provider if you leave multiple backups on the server and exceed your hosting package disk space allocation.

Update Plugins

From the left hand side admin dashboard menu select > Plugins > Installed plugins

Check the radio box of plugins that need updating or click on the “Update Available” menu option below the main window heading. “Plugins” Select all plugins, select “update” from the top drop down menu and then click “Apply”

From the left hand side admin dashboard menu select > Dashboard > Updates

Click the blue “Update Now” button
